Salt Run versus the Matanzas

Salt Run is sheltered. Current is gentler, wave energy is low, and docks there tend to age slowly and predictably. The dominant failure mode is straightforward age: decking that has gone soft, fasteners that have corroded through, borer damage accumulating quietly in the splash zone.

The Matanzas side is a different structure entirely. It carries real tidal flow, boat wake is constant through the season, and docks need longer walkways to reach usable water across the marsh and flats. Longer walkways mean more pilings, more spans, and more places for a structure to rack out of square. Wake in particular does something people underestimate: it works a dock thousands of times a day, and it is the reason Matanzas-side hardware loosens faster than Salt Run hardware on the same age of dock.
